Whether you are searching for a book for a new mom in your life or Mother’s Day gift, here are three books that capture the essence of motherhood.
Soon is a sweet story of a mother elephant and her son, Raju, and an early morning adventure. As they journey by the river, through the forest and tall grass, Raju’s familiar choral question is “When can we go home again?”, to why the mother replies, “soon.” Raju’s mom protects him from various creatures. Finally, the pair reaches the top of the mountain and share a special moment together overlooking all their world.
The cadence of words and soft, soothing illustrations carry the reader through a story that will warm your heart. 🐘
Originally published in French as Les Chiffres (literal translation: Numbers) and Les Jeux (Games), Mommy Loves and Daddy Cuddles are part of a board book series celebrating love between parents and children. I love the paintings by Georg Hallensleben. He and Anne Gutman are also the author and illustrator team behind the Gaspard and Lisa books.
They make great gifts for a baby shower or Mother’s / Father’s Day. Find all of the books, including a boxed gift set, here.
“…Max stepped into his private boat and waved good-bye and sailed back over a year and in and out of weeks and through a day and into the night of his very own room where he found his supper waiting for him”
Pictured here are the English and French versions of Where the Wild Things Are / Max et les Maximonstres by the incomparable Maurice Sendak, first published in 1963. A classic book, it and demonstrates the love a mother has for her child. After a grand adventure, not to mention some mischief and harsh words exchanged, Max finds finds his mother has left his supper waiting — “and it was still hot” / “tout chaud.”
